Rock hunting!
Description
An orienteering workshop, designed for different levels, to discover the 6 types of rock found in the Chablais region and used locally.
The workshop, set in the grounds of the Abbaye d'Aulps, will enable children to discover up to 6 types of Chablais rock, in all their forms (ancient or currently forming, local, or having travelled during the great ice ages...). Using clues scattered around the estate, orientation and distance-measuring instruments (compass, knotted rope), the different teams will search for the stones. Each stone has its own story to tell, which must be understood in order to place them on the chronological scale of the formation of the Alps. Step by step, each team will discover a single stone, which they will present to the other groups at the final presentation.
The six stones on display will enable you to scan the time scale and highlight the major events that marked the formation of the landscape. At the end of the workshop, each team will have filled in its roadmap, with the main concepts characterizing the rock studied. The groups will cross-reference their knowledge to gain an overall view of the geological history of the Chablais region.
