European Heritage Days: visit to the Col du Grand Taillet hydroelectric site

Built at the end of the 19th century, the Col du Grand Taillet is home to France's first pumped-turbine system, a technical innovation that provided light for the gas-powered towns of Evian and Thonon.

Although the site was abandoned before the Second World War for economic reasons, it remains a valuable heritage site, including the gatehouse and the basin, which are now in a very poor state of repair. The commune has plans to create an educational center on the site. The visit will be presented by the association de sauvegarde du patrimoine de la Forclaz.
