Sancta Maria Concert

The Festival des Itinérances Musicales Baroques en Pays de Savoie makes a stopover in Montriond, at the Church of the Visitation of Mary, this Friday 25 October.

The Haute-Savoie baroque ensemble Capella Ripaillensis is premiering a new programme of 17th-century sacred music entitled Sancta Maria. Since the Middle Ages, the Virgin Mary, a maternal and benevolent figure, has played a fundamental role in Catholic liturgy and theology. With the Protestant Reformation, the cult of the Virgin Mary became a hallmark of Catholicism. For this programme, the artists have selected a selection of works dedicated to the Marian cult in the 17th century. It is conceived as a spiritual journey that follows the path of the young girl from Israel, from the Annunciation to her presence at the foot of the cross and before the empty tomb on Easter morning. Mary, the first of believers, honoured by the Church, is thus magnificently sung, and these pieces illustrate the beauty of Baroque art and will resonate wonderfully in the ad hoc architecture of the Church of the Visitation of Mary. The musicians will be : Cindy Favre-Victoire (soprano), Tim Meulenbeld (cornet), Xihuitl Tonalli Mundo Lozano (violin), Victor Mériaux (viola da gamba) and David Mathieu Maurer (harpsichord and direction).
