A walk along the banks of the Dranse from La Baume

A lovely little walk in low mountain along the river under the canopy of the forest. With very little elevation gain, this trail is ideal for a relaxing outing.

Following the Dranse River, the trail winds gently through the woods to the hamlet of Couvaloup. Once you arrive, enjoy the tranquility of this small hamlet, its orchard, and the lovely view of Mont Ouzon.

Start from the car park at La Baume church. If there are no spaces left, there is a car park at the cemetery, a little further on.

1/ From the church car park, head towards the signpost. Take the small road on the right down towards Pont de Gys. This small road, which is tarmacked at the start, quickly turns into a track.

2/ At Pont de Gys, continue to the right towards Couvaloup.

3/ At Les Caouets, continue towards Couvaloup. The path climbs to the right. A small passage to the left of the gate allows you to go round it.

4/ Follow the path along the Dranse. This makes up the bulk of the walk. At the junction of two paths, turn right to head uphill towards Couvaloup. You will gradually emerge from the forest and cross an orchard.

5/ Arrival at Couvaloup. Return via the same route.

Alternative route: from Couvaloup, return to La Baume by following a loop along the road towards La Baume ‘par Les Geydets’.
