Hiking at La Chaux

This is a superb hike with a beautiful view of Saint-Jean-d'Aulps and the Roc d'Enfer. When the sky isn't too overcast, you can admire the majestic Mont Blanc in the distance!

The ascent to La Chaux is on a carriage road in a forest setting. It's a continuous climb, with no flat surface for a break before the destination. It's best to do it in one go! The views open up as you go along. At last, you'll find a quiet grassy area in the sun, with even a picnic table! From here, you can enjoy views of the surrounding peaks: Roc d'Enfer, Mont Blanc, Pic de la Corne, Roc de Tavaneuse...

Start from the ‘Onchets’ car park, at the junction of the Route de la Villaz and the Route de Bellecombe.

1/ Turn right up the Route de la Villaz until you see a sign on your left for ‘les Mellies’.

2/ Then take the forest track which climbs to the left as far as a crossroads.

3/ At the crossroads, continue straight on towards ‘Damoz des Prés’ and you will arrive at La Chaux, where the panorama is waiting for you. A picnic table is available.

4/ Return the same way you came.
