The Mont Chéry by the Mont Caly

A superb hike with gentle climbs and magnificent panoramic views of the peaks of Haute-Savoie.

The hike from Mont Chéry via Mont Caly takes you through the forest at first. The ascent is fairly gentle toward Mont Caly, but it becomes steeper as you head toward Mont Chéry, though it’s not too difficult. The route follows “balcony-style” trails, offering sweeping, impressive views of the mountains of Haute-Savoie, including Mont Blanc. The “King of the Alps” truly towers over the other peaks in the background. You’ll also admire the stunning Chablais and Aravis ranges.

The trail is marked with signs and arrows.

Start at the Col de l'Encrenaz parking lot.

1/ From the Col de l'Encrenaz parking lot, follow the sign toward Mont Caly. The trail climbs toward the forest.

2/ On the forest trail, continue to follow the signs toward Mont Caly. You’ll pass signs Derrière Chéry, Les Quenes, and Les Chars.

3/ The trail begins to open up as you exit the forest. A little further on at the intersection, turn right (follow the yellow arrow on a green background).

4/ At Mont Caly, a short distance away, a small trail climbs behind the sign to reach the cross.

5/ After reaching the cross, retrace your steps and follow the signs toward Mont Chéry.

6/ A little further on, head up to the left toward Mont Chéry.

7/ At Dessus Mont Caly, turn right toward Les Chevrettes. Do not follow the trail up toward Mont Chéry.

8/ At Devant Chéry, turn left toward Le Clos.

9/ At Le Clos, continue to the right toward Mont Chéry via Grande Ourse.

10/ From Grande Ourse, follow the signs toward Mont Chéry.

11/ At Mont Chéry, a small trail climbs toward the cross and the orientation table. You’ll then need to head to the top of the Pointe du Chéry chairlift to find the next directional sign. Then follow the signs toward Mont Caly.

12/ At the Chéry ridge, continue straight ahead toward Mont Caly.

13/ At Dessus Chéry, follow the signs toward Col de Lachat.

14/ At Col de Lachat, take the trail that descends to the right into the forest toward Col de l'Encrenaz.

15/ Back at Les Quenes, turn right toward Col de l'Encrenaz.
